Sr. Firmware Engineer

DEPARTMENT:
Engineering

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Candidate will be involved in new product development and sustaining engineering for portable and in-line instrumentation at a leading, water quality instrumentation manufacturer. Under general supervision, and guidance of senior engineers:

  • Designs, modifies, and troubleshoots embedded firmware, computer applications and apps for electronic measurement and control equipment using ARM and Microchip architecture processors.
  • Analyzes target digital hardware circuitry and the requirements to develop firmware that meets design input. • Develops code using languages such as C, C++, Python, database scripts in accordance with Company’s coding standards.
  • Creates test environments, and tests and troubleshoots designs using in-circuit emulators and debugging tools.
  • Documents software/firmware design according the company standards. Logs defects and tracks their status in the tracking database.
  • Works effectively with hardware development engineers, and provides technical support for production, sales and office personnel when requested.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated, require little supervision, and be a multi-tasking team player with a hands-on approach.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
  • BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience are required.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze functional requirements, develop High Level design and implement working code.
  • Familiar with ARM and Microchip processor architectures to include power management, interrupts, and memory structure.
  • Proficient with development and debugging tools for ARM and Microchip processors to include compilers, linkers, IDE, simulators, and in-circuit emulators).
  • Familiar with I/O interfacing for external memory, DMA, A/D, D/A, PWM, etc., algorithms for signal processing (filtering, glitch removal, curve fit and linearization), communication protocols (I2C, RS-232/485, Modbus, Ethernet, BT/BLE).
  • Able to work with hardware, test, and other engineers to develop and review products and systems, including analog and digital hardware, firmware, software, and mechanical systems.

  • PLUS COMPETENCIES:
  • Familiar with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
  • Familiarity with DSP (Digital Signal Processing) theory.
  • Hands-on experience with the water treatment and water quality instrumentation is a plus.

    Test Engineer

    DEPARTMENT:
    Production

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    Candidate will be involved in design, implementation, and maintenance of testers for PCB Assemblies and final product for portable and in-line instrumentation at a leading, water quality instrumentation manufacturer. Under general supervision, and in collaboration with engineering staff:

    • Designs, develops, and maintains PCB Assembly testers and test systems for new and existing products (analog and digital hardware, controlling firmware and software, computations, and data collection and retention).
    • Determines the Design for Test (DFT) requirements, defines test sequences and specific measurements and related calibration methods for new and existing products.
    • Collaborates with mechanical, hardware, firmware, and software engineering staff to design and develop testers and test systems.
    • Documents software/firmware design according the company standards. Logs defects and tracks their status in the tracking database.
    • Provides training and support to the Production Test personnel in function, design, and maintenance of all testers and testing processes on the production floor and at contract manufacturers.
    • Gathers and analyzes test data to improve test coverage and efficiencies.
    • Works with the QC Department to satisfy the data collection and retention.
    • Interacts with local and overseas contract manufacturers.
    • Evaluates new test technologies and methods.
    • Candidate must be self-motivated, require little supervision, and be a multi-tasking team player with a hands-on approach.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, and minimum five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience are required.
  • Competent to design, develop and debug embedded firmware (C programming) for target processors and/or modules such as (Arduino, Adafruit, Raspberry Pi, etc.). Experience with Debugging Tools and Programmers. Experience with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, RS-232, USB, etc.
  • Competent to use Python language to create PC Windows Applications that control testers.
  • Competent to troubleshoot test systems comprising of custom electronic hardware (circuitry), PC Computers, firmware and software.
  • Good writing and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in team environment.

  • PLUS COMPETENCIES:
  • Competent to troubleshoot electronic hardware (circuitry), firmware and software designs for test equipment involving microcontrollers, analog and digital circuitry, A/D, D/A, and communication circuitry, and PC computers.
  • Hands-on experience with the water treatment and water quality instrumentation is a plus.

    PCB Designer

    DEPARTMENT:
    Engineering

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    Under general supervision and guidance of hardware engineers, responsible for creating schematics, designing multilayer PCB, and creating required manufacturing documentation packages using CAD tools.

      REQUIREMENTS:
    • ASEE, or equivalent formal training,
    • Minimum 3 years experience in design and layout of High Density Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) using Altium Designer toolsets (Schematic Capture, PCB Layout).
    • Design multilayer stackups (up to 8+ layers)
    • Calculate controlled impedance
    • Place high density and high quantity (up to 100+) of components
    • Create and verify component decals
    • Design and Layout Digital, Analog, and Mixed Signal layouts that contain highly sensitive circuits ( >100dB isolation), high speed signals and clocks, high impedance circuits, power / ground planes.
    • Create and verify schematic symbols.
    • Create and manage libraries of reusable components.
    • Generate and maintain BOMs and fabrication documentation to support production.
    • Assist Production and QA departments with evaluation and acceptance tests of circuit boards.

    PLUS COMPETENCIES:
  • Familiar with requirements of industry standards for PCB design (IPC-2221) and manufacture (IPC-A-600).
  • Familiar with CadSoft EAGLE toolset.
